Little Tokyo field trip

1. Yagura-Japanese Village Plaza

Yagura tower is a replica of a fire tower in Japan. Yagura tower was built in 1983 by a Korean-American architect named David Hyun.




2. Ellison Onizuka Monumen

This monument is for Ellision Onizuka, the first Japanese-American astronaut who killed in the Challenger accident in 1986.




3. Go For Broke Monument


This monument is for Japanese-American veterans who fought in World War 2. It built in 1999 by Roger Yanagita.




4. Japanese American Community Cultural Center

Japanese American Community Cultural Center(JACCC) founded in 1980. JACCC is the largest Asian American cultural center in the United States. It presents Japanese-American arts and cultures.




5. Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple

In 1976 Rev.Junjyo Izumida established the first Japanese Buddhist temple in Little Tokyo. The temple had served Buddhist community since 20th century.




6. Kyoto Grand Hotel

This hotel was built in 1977 and it was a huge hotel which has 21 stories.




7. Imagawayaki

Imagawayaki is a Japanese dessert. It is made out of a special batter in a pan paste. Imagawayaki began to be sold near the Kanda Imagawabashi bridge during 1772-1781.




8. Taco Yaki

Tacoyaki is a fired octopus ball-shaped dumpling. It is made out of batter with a special takoyaki pan. It is invented in 1935.




9. Statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya


A monument to Kinjiro Ninomiya, known as the "Peasant Sage of the Edo Period"(1787-1856).




10. Five items from Fugetsudo



In Fugetsudo, they sell mochis. Mochi is made out of pounding steamed glutinous rice. Mochi can be called rice cake.




11. Five items from Mikawaya




They sell mochi icecream in this store. Mochi icecream is a icecream made out of mochi. It has its own taste of glutinous rice.




12. Kinokuniya Bookstore

Kinokuniya bookstore is the one of the largest bookstore in Japan. In this store, they carries tons of things that catch people's attention.




13. Five photos of relicated food on display






This is the replicated food on display. It replicates the exact food they are selling in the store.




14. Jungle


In this place, there are tons of collections. Most of them are about animation and Japanese TV collectioons. They also sells cartoons too.




15. Marukai Market



                                      

These are the items that are taken in Marukai Market. There were many unique items that we can't usually see in America.




16. Tokyo Japanese Outlet



There were many Japanese unique items in this store. Some of items were cool enough to amuse many people. They have other chain stores in different part of U.S.




17. Bunka-do






This is a Japanese gift store. They sell little stuff like a tea set or bubble head. It is really good place to just exprience Japanese culture.




18. Anzen Hardware







This store sells knives, scythes, and saws. Since 1946, this store was known for its impressive collections of knives and scythes.




19. SK Uyeda Department Store



In this department store, they sell hardware, kitchenware, stationery, clothes, and toys.




20. Rafu Bussan



This is a gift store that sells tons of gorgeous dishes, dolls, and vases. Prices are kind of high becasue they have to import everything from Japan.




21. Weller Court




This is the unique way of displaying what foods they are selling in the restaurant. The display foods looks exactly like the real foods.




22. Any Izakaya





It is a sushi restaurant. Izakaya menas place to eat and drink, comfortably sitting down. This restaurant offers a homestyle traditional foods.




23. Japanese American National Museum



The building was built in 1925 by Japanese immigrants. There are some collections and researches about Japanes American cultures.




24. Museum of Contemporary Art(MOCA)



It is founded in 1979. It is the only museum in L.A. that devoted exclusively to contemporary art. It interprets all art works since 1940.




25. The Frying Fish


It is a revolving sushi bar. Sushi in the bowl moves thorugh the rail and people can pick whatever the sushi they want to eat.




26. Koyasan Buddhist Temple



It is a hidden Buddhist Temple in the Japanese Village Plaza. It is a one of the great place to go visit.




27. Little Tokyo Marketplace



In Little Tokyo Marketplace, they sell meats and fish. They have sale periods too so people would go and visit there.
